Finland Bear, Wolf & Wolverine Photography Tour - Ultimate Predator Finale

    Thrilling Wildlife Holidays Worldwide

    Finland's Ultimate Predator Finale

Join professional wildlife photographer Kyle Moore on Ultimate Predator Finale, our flagship Finland wildlife photography tour. Deep in the Finnish wilderness, close to the Russian border, this immersive photography adventure takes you into the territory of some of Europe’s most elusive predators.

Timed perfectly for Ruska, Finland’s spectacular autumn season, the tour offers exceptional opportunities to photograph wild brown bears, wolves and wolverines in their natural environment. With the forests transformed by autumn colour, this is one of the most thrilling times of year to experience and photograph Finland’s remarkable wildlife.

This is a truly thrilling wildlife photography adventure, with five days spent inside purpose-built photography hides positioned deep within the remote wilderness of the Finnish borderlands. This is a landscape shaped by wildlife, where vast forests, secluded lakes and endless wilderness provide the backdrop for some of Europe’s most elusive predators.

By mid-October, the days have shortened considerably, creating beautiful opportunities to work with the soft, atmospheric light of the Finnish autumn. Rather than following a traditional overnight hide schedule, we make the most of the shorter daylight hours by spending the day in the hides, maximising our chances of encountering wildlife while photographing in the spectacular low autumnal light.

The wolf pack in this region has successfully reproduced for many years and continues to thrive. Spending extended periods in their territory provides a fascinating insight into their behaviour and complex social dynamics, while offering exceptional opportunities to photograph these remarkable animals in their natural environment.

This is our Ultimate Predator Finale: an immersive, premium wildlife photography experience designed around time in the wilderness, exceptional photographic opportunities and the thrill of experiencing Finland’s wild predators.

Our evenings are spent at our private wilderness cabin, where the experience continues long after we leave the hides. Enjoy delicious home-cooked meals and freshly baked desserts before relaxing in the sauna or unwinding in the lakeside hot tub.

And as darkness falls, there may be another spectacle waiting above the forest. With favourable conditions, October can offer opportunities to witness the Aurora Borealis dancing across the northern sky – an unforgettable addition to an already extraordinary wildlife experience.

Both our wilderness basecamp and the photography areas lie in one of Northern Europe’s most remote landscapes, far from towns, roads and the distractions of everyday life. Here, wildlife truly takes centre stage. During the right conditions, a single day can bring opportunities to photograph brown bears, wolves, wolverines, white-tailed eagles and golden eagles – an extraordinary concentration of wildlife within one remote corner of the Finnish wilderness.

    Accommodation

    The Luxury Bear Cabin

Throughout this tour, we stay at Basecamp Kuikka, situated in Finland’s remote Kuhmo region. Originally built as accommodation for local forestry workers, the lodge occupies a peaceful headland surrounded by Lake Kuikka and seemingly endless boreal forest. Its traditional Finnish log construction and wonderfully secluded setting give the property a warm, authentic character. The atmosphere feels more like staying in a large family home than in a conventional hotel.

The lodge has nine simple but comfortable guest rooms, with shared bathroom facilities, hot showers and a traditional Finnish sauna. It can accommodate up to 30 guests and offers a friendly, sociable atmosphere in which groups can relax and share stories between wildlife-watching sessions.

Basecamp Kuikka is the most rustic of the Finnish properties used by Natures Thrill. The bedrooms and facilities are basic, so guests should not expect hotel-style luxury. However, we believe its exceptional location and wildlife-viewing opportunities more than compensate for the modest accommodation. From our extensive first-hand experience of photographing Finland’s wildlife, Kuikka offers some of the country’s finest opportunities to observe and photograph wild brown bears, wolves and wolverines.

The lodge operates more than 20 specialist wildlife hides across a variety of carefully selected habitats, including open wetlands, atmospheric boreal forest and picturesque lakeshores. The hides vary in size and can generally accommodate between two and five guests. Toilet facilities are positioned at the rear of each hide, usually within a separate covered area to provide privacy when sharing. While the hides are designed primarily for wildlife observation and photography rather than luxury, they provide an extraordinary window into Finland’s wildest landscapes.

    Good to know

Although these luxury cabins provide outstanding opportunities to observe wild Brown Bears at close range, they are primarily designed for those who wish to enjoy the experience in complete comfort. For keen photographers and guests seeking an even more immersive wilderness experience, those staying for multiple nights may choose to spend one or more complimentary nights in one of the lodge's traditional bear-watching hides, positioned deeper within the forest or overlooking a tranquil lake. These purpose-built hides offer an entirely different perspective, providing exceptional opportunities to observe wildlife at eye level and capture remarkable photographs of Finland's iconic predators in their natural environment.
