Join professional wildlife photographer and guide Kyle Moore on an unforgettable Alaska grizzly bear photography adventure in one of North America’s most spectacular wilderness destinations. At Natures Thrill, we are constantly seeking exceptional opportunities to experience and photograph bears in their natural habitat, and this expedition takes that philosophy to an entirely new level.
Imagine watching wild Alaska grizzly bears from just metres away, surrounded by towering volcanic mountains, rugged coastlines and vast, untouched wilderness. With incredible opportunities for grizzly bear photography, close encounters and unforgettable wildlife experiences, this is far more than a conventional bear-watching trip. It is an exhilarating journey into the heart of the Alaskan wilderness, where some of the world’s most magnificent predators take centre stage.
During Alaska’s short but spectacular summer season, we will follow the rhythm of the wilderness, timing our days around the tides and the movements of the bears. Along the remote shorelines, the retreating tide reveals vast tidal flats where wild grizzly bears gather to feed, digging through the exposed mud and sand in search of clams. Watching these powerful animals forage at such close range offers extraordinary opportunities for intimate, natural grizzly bear photography.
As the tide recedes and the bears move inland, we will follow their journey into the lush coastal meadows, where they graze on nutrient-rich grasses and sedges. From expansive landscapes to close-up encounters, the constantly changing environment provides a remarkable variety of photographic opportunities, with Alaska’s towering volcanic mountains, pristine coastlines and untouched wilderness forming a truly spectacular backdrop.
Our carefully selected travel dates coincide with the height of the grizzly bear mating season, adding another fascinating dimension to this exceptional wildlife photography experience. During this important period, large male bears become increasingly active, travelling considerable distances in search of receptive females and often competing with rivals for mating opportunities. This can lead to some of the most dramatic and fascinating behaviour imaginable, from scent marking and vocalisations to displays of dominance, persistent courtship and interactions between competing males. To witness these powerful animals during such an important stage of their natural lives is a privilege rarely experienced, offering not only exceptional Alaska grizzly bear photography, but a deeper insight into the complex lives and behaviours of these magnificent wild bears.
There are places that you photograph, and there are places that stay with you forever. Alaska is both.
Working alongside some of Alaska’s most experienced bear biologists and wildlife guides, we will venture deep into the wilderness using specialist ATVs, allowing us to navigate the remote landscape safely and efficiently while responding quickly to bear activity and sightings. This unique approach gives us the freedom to explore a vast, untouched environment and maximise our time in the field, always with the welfare of the bears and the safety of our guests at the forefront.
Between our wildlife photography sessions, we will return to our comfortable guesthouse to relax, reflect on the day’s encounters and enjoy delicious, hearty meals. It is the perfect balance of adventure and comfort — spending your days immersed in the Alaskan wilderness before returning each evening to a welcoming base.
With more than two decades of professional wildlife photography experience in Finland, Roger brings a wealth of knowledge to the adventure, sharing his expertise in animal behaviour, light and making the most of fleeting moments in the field.
Unlike many Finnish wildlife experiences that focus primarily on bears, this adventure is designed around three of Finland’s most elusive predators. From powerful Brown Bears to secretive Wolverines and wild Wolves, every hide session brings the possibility of a completely different encounter.
With access to more than 20 specialist hides across boreal forest, wetlands and lakeshores, sessions can be chosen to make the most of changing light, weather and wildlife behaviour. This variety creates opportunities for everything from intimate portraits to atmospheric environmental images.
Travel during Finland’s spectacular summer season, when the sun barely sets and wildlife can remain active beneath beautiful golden Nordic light. Long hours in the field mean more opportunities to photograph natural behaviour, changing light and those fleeting moments that make wildlife photography so rewarding.
The following suggested itinerary is designed to inspire you and can be tailored to suit your individual requirements. Speak to one of our Finland specialists to create your perfect wildlife adventure.
Our basecamp for the duration of the expedition is a beautiful homestead lodge, nestled beneath snow-capped mountains and surrounded by the vast, untouched wilderness of Lake Clark National Park. Reached only by plane or boat, with the nearest road hundreds of kilometres away, this is Alaska at its most remote — yet our comfortable lodge provides a welcoming retreat at the end of each day in the wilderness.
The lodge offers everything we need for a relaxing and comfortable stay, including private rooms, a spacious dining area and inviting communal spaces where we can unwind, share stories and discuss plans for the days ahead. With spectacular wilderness surrounding us in every direction, simply being here is an experience in itself.
Each day, we’ll enjoy freshly prepared home-cooked meals created by the local chef, making the most of produce from the garden, sustainably sourced ingredients, homemade breads and delicious desserts. It’s a wonderful contrast to our time in the field, providing hearty and comforting meals after a day exploring the Alaskan wilderness. Despite its wonderfully remote setting, the lodge offers reliable WiFi and phone service, allowing you to stay connected when needed. It is a rare combination: a genuine wilderness experience in one of Alaska’s most spectacular national parks, paired with the warmth, comfort and hospitality of a beautiful homestead lodge.
About Lake Clark National Park
Majestic, remote and wonderfully untouched, Lake Clark National Park is one of Alaska’s most extraordinary wilderness destinations. Located southwest of Anchorage and accessible only by small aircraft or boat, the park lies approximately an hour by light aircraft from the city, transporting you from urban Alaska into a vast landscape where nature remains firmly in control.
Established in 1980, Lake Clark encompasses an astonishing four million acres of pristine wilderness — roughly twice the size of Yellowstone National Park. Its spectacular landscapes encompass towering glaciers, active volcanoes, dramatic alpine spires, sweeping tundra, wild rivers and pristine lakes, together with more than 80 miles of rugged coastline bordering Cook Inlet.
This immense wilderness provides a sanctuary for an extraordinary diversity of wildlife. Dense forests, open tundra and rich coastal habitats support Alaska brown bears and black bears, moose, caribou, countless seabirds, salmon and many other species, creating exceptional opportunities to experience wildlife in a truly natural setting. Along the park’s productive coastal region lies our base for exploring this remarkable wilderness. Here, the combination of abundant wildlife, spectacular scenery and almost complete isolation creates an experience that captures the true spirit of wild Alaska — far from roads, crowds and the familiar.
At Natures Thrill, we believe that an exceptional wildlife experience starts with the right guide. We carefully select guides not simply for their knowledge, but for their first-hand experience, local expertise and genuine connection to the places and wildlife we visit. Many of our guides have spent years, and in some cases decades, working in their regions, building an intimate understanding of wildlife behaviour, seasonal movements and the best opportunities for observation and photography. This depth of experience allows us to offer something far beyond a standard guided holiday — expert-led adventures shaped by people who truly know the wild places they call home.
